Course Content
This course gives an overview of value creation in the chemical industry and introduces methods how to increase value creation in the industrial environment. The value chains of the chemical industry will be elaborated. The focus is on fossil and renewable raw materials and widely used processes. After explaining the basic principles, processes and raw materials will be explained and evaluated, taking into account the business dimension. Examples from industry will be used to illustrate value creation in the pharmaceutical, specialty chemical and large-scale chemical sectors. Finally, management tools for increasing value creation will be presented and practiced with the students.In the lecture, presentations will be prepared in homework, so that the time required for the lecture is 60h.
Aquired competences
Students will be able to:
- Recognize and critically apply business management interrelationships in the chemical industry
- Grasp the interrelationships between raw materials, processes and economic success and independently give suggestions for improvement
- Critically present and recognize current developments in the chemical industry and their impact on economic success
- Apply current management tools to increase value creation, both strategically and operationally
